Japan might relocate plants to Indonesia from ChinaBANDUNG: Numbers of Investors from Japan might relocate their plants from China to Indonesia following demonstrations over the two countries, triggered by a dispute concerning the uninhabited Senkaku islands (Diaoyu in Chinese).
The disputed territory feud between Japan and China have a big impact on economic activities between the two countries, especially investment, said Senior Director of Japan External Trade Organization (Jetro) Yusuke Yoshida.
According to him, some days ago Japanese investors asked many things about Indonesia to Jetro Representative in Jakarta. The things in questions are such as the political condition, business climate, and a number of issues that related to investments.
Several Japan-based industry players, he continued, will soon realize their relocation agenda. Currently, Japanese investment in Indonesia is still dominated by the automotive and electronics sectors.
However, he added, the option to invest in other sectors is still widely open. “Japanese investment interest is still in high technology industries, such as automotive, but there are also some companies that invest in the textile,” he said during Indonesia-Japan Fashion and Tex¬tile Event in Bandung, West Java (9/27/2012).
Japan will continue to strengthen economic cooperation with Indonesia that began with the signing of the Indonesia-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement (IJEPA) in 2007 as one of the main elements of the agreement is to increase access to Indonesian export products to Japan.
